Infinite space and unchanging tides seem to emphasize man's mortality. We are here but a moment in the endless life of time and space.

The 8:15 bell rang and the day's monotony began. Bell after bell separated time. The endless faces in the halls with the same expression seemed to push and hustle, each having their own destination though they are virtually the same.

The endless day was moved along by strings of computer programs. Attendence was taken every few minutes. Stu- dents were known to the school by their number and ID card.

The years seemed to take decades to pass. A day will come when we will wonder where the time went.

In the routine life outlined by rules and regulations we found change. Changes within ourselves, our feelings, our ideas, our surroundings, our codes, and our laws.

Everything around us will change in our lifetime. All of the things that we value as real and true will be tested and changed. Change is natural, and we must accept it. To grow is to change.

■Tm

The surroundings changed. Often we were moved and shifted during times which we were supposed to have been ready to face change. From grade to grade, school to school rank to rank, we were moved. Forces told us to change, and we blindly searched, confused and bewildered. We were told to grow up but how? So often we were ready to change, to progress, but forces held us back for their con- veniences. How hard it was to change, when the caterpillar was not permitted to spin its cocoon!

The years of youth were confused and trying. We changed so fast in the few years it was hard to stop and evaluate where we were going. We often avoided understanding and instead hid ourselves among a crowd or behind a mask, never looking within ourselves.

Somehow in the midst of confusion we grew. Facts and bits of information that had been drilled into our heads began to take form. We searched and tested what life had to offer. The values given to us by our parents were tested, and often times changed. We were learning about life and about ourselves.

The members of the class of 1976 took their exit as graduates from EHS, as adults. They had changed since their first few days in the high school. Their attitudes, feelings and views had changed. They left with new goals but still hesitant. They scattered in all directions as the dandelion scatters its seeds.

Varsity Football

The Panthers of '75 struggled for the first part of the season with opening losses to Toledo Start, Warren Harding, and rival St. Joseph. These made them work even harder toward achievement of the pinnacle of success which eluded them for another few weeks, until a Home- coming victory spurred them on to capture second place in the new league. Under the first year tutelage of Head Coach Seymour, the Panthers finished the season with a 2-5-2 overall record, 2-3-1 in the Greater Cleveland Conference. Named to the All-League teani were flanker Ken Petardi (led league in pass receiving and interceptions), tailback Stan Zupancic (gained 598 yds.), and punter Frank Reily (33yd. avg. punt). Honorable mentions were received by Mark Novosel, Tom Wandersieben, and Steve Pyle.

Marching Band

This year s marching band, under the direction of Art Sydow and Matt Springfield, entertained the onlookers with a variety of songs. Each show had a theme including a salute to the Bicentennial with helium bal- loons sailing across the sky. A two week summer band camp, Wednes- day after school practices, and daily morning practices were responsible for the successful marching band season.

Majorettes

With the Euclid Band marching onto the field, the Majorettes twirled and strutted ahead. Each new half-time show gave the majorettes an opportunity to display the routines which they had learned at practices in the summer. As the season progressed, each routine be- came more complicated and more en- joyable. With the end of the football sea- son, the majorettes continued their per- formances at the basketball games.

American Field Service, an interna- tional organization, sends American students abroad and also receives foreign students. The Euclid chapter raised money by sponsoring a spaghetti dinner, selling candy, and having a Rock-a- thon. The money earned helped to bring an exchange student from the Philippines to our high school and send two students abroad to Switzerland and Bolivia. Social activities included picnics, soccer games, and parties.

Pinochle Club

Pinochle, a game of skill and chance, is played every Tuesday by a few of Euclids' devoted students. The players enjoy getting involved with this card game, because it im- proves one's memory and disci- plines the mind. A player must keep track of the tricks involved too. The player with the Jack of Diamonds and the Queen of Spades has an advantage and scores Double Pinochle!

Varsity Soccer Scores

The '75 Soccer team rebuilt this season in the midst of change. Coach Sattler urged the team to an outstanding effort and with most players returning next year. Heads became backboards for guided missiles while shins became battered by opposing forces. Self-drive and determination become the most important key to the game, and to win becomes the object of every game.

Deans And Counselors

Euclid's counseling staff provides valuable assistance to students. Ex- perienced and caring counselors and deans help students schedule courses, listen to students problems, and give career and college guidence. Although the secretaries often go unnoticed, these women perform the myriad duties day after day to keep divisions and the school functioning. Without them, Euclid High School would fail to exist.

Social Studies

Through social study courses Eu- clid's students become informed citizens. Classes in government, history, area studies, sociology, psy- chology, humanties, economics, and human relations enable tomorrow's leaders to gain experience and insight about the behavior of man in his environment. At the same time, he learns about national and inter- national affairs. With the continu- ance of the phase elective program, more courses met the needs of more students. A revision of the junior honors American studies course was another change for 1976. 1. Mr. Demora's government class gets involved. 2. The Lone Ranger reveals his true identity.

Math

Whether a student wants basic math, algebra, geometry, or calculus, the Math Department offers the op- portunity to develop mathematical skills necessary for everyone and provides advanced courses for those who want to major in math. With change inevitable, the department introduced Informal Geometry, for those students interested in exploring geometry without the full mathe- matical development found in Plane Geometry.

Science

The purpose of the science depart- ment is to make students aware of the methods of science and the natural laws of nature, and to develop within them a curiosity about the environment in which they live. Courses are offered in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Basic Science, and in a relatively new pro- gram called Phase Science. With the introduction of such phase courses as backpacking biology, greenhouse, and environmental studies, students are able to expand their interests into a broader range of scientific fields.

This year the library ex- panded its cataloging system to include materials such as filmstrips, slides, tapes, records, and other non- printed media in order to service better its users. The relatively new media center, installed two years ago, also provided a popular way to study or spend leisure time. This year all these facilities were under the super- vision of a new head librarian, Margaret Burns.

Media Technician

With the advent of television and the widespread use of visual aides in the classroom, the audio-visual technician with a crew of assistants schedule, preview, and repair equip- ment for over 150 teachers eight periods a day, for five days a week. Locating lost equipment, replacing worn parts, and reviewing the latest trends in A-V becomes exciting and challenging as the seasons pass. Always ready to assist, these people make learning more enjoyable as well as meaningful.

Foriegn Language

Each year, many students take courses in a foreign language. Be it French, German, or Spanish, the goal is the same: to master the lan- guage, and through mastery improve communications and relations be- tween all people. Students also learn about the culture and the people of the land they are studying, and thus learn more about their own heritage. This year, the department again offered a trip abroad in the spring for all language students through the Institute for International Living, providing a real life situation.

Industrial Arts

Changing economy and lifestyles have changed some of the educational ways at Euclid. Classes that prepare the individuals for jobs are becoming more and more evident. Orientation and job training are avaliable here before high school years end, devel- oping young people who are ready for and specialized in various types of employment after they graduate.

1. Aspiring mechanic learns more about his career.

2. Industrial Arts teacher Frank Passarella working with his students.

3. Home Ec, students are skilled in the fine art of dressmaking.

Home Economics

Students enrolled in home eco- nomics have the opportunity to explore and experience the many areas of homemaking. It is the pur- pose of this department to guide the students not only in the devel- opment of skills, but also in the formation of attitudes and appre- ciations which will lead them to happier and more successful lives. Students in this department can choose courses in clothing, foods, family living, and vocational child care as best suit their needs and goals in the coming seasons.

2. Richard Patton demonstrates his drafting techniques.

Art

For the student seeking self-ex- pression through visual media, art classes offer many different experi- ences. Classes in crafts, sculpting, and fine arts help students to express their inner feelings in a creative way to give pleasure to others, as well as to themselves. This year's phase courses widened the program so more students could do more things. The success of this program can be seen in the fact that it is to be continued.

Music

Fred VoUman

Music, the language of the soul, can be heard in many phases of school life throughout the year. From Varsity Chorale to the Jazz Band, from the Marching Band to Orches- tra, from the first ball game to the final spring concert, the beat goes on. Practice begins in August before the first bell rings and goes on for the rest of life for many of Euclid's musicians.

Occupational Education

Meeting the needs of the individual has become a meaningful curriculum for many of Euclid's students. How- ever, for a select group of students this curriculum means more than a philosophy it is a method of learn- ing and experiencing. Through actual work experience, students develop skills they will use in life. They take jobs in local businesses, train for some jobs here in school, and gain valuable experience through inter- views and social contacts. A staff of dedicated people work daily to meet the needs of these students so they can be prepared to meet their futures.

The Key Club helped many in need this year and showed much interest in the school by aiding Student Council at Thanksgiving when they donated their time and well earned money, entering a float in the Homecoming parade, and offering many dances throughout the year. The Key Club is associated with the Euclid Kiwanis Club and their main objective was service to the community. Along with the service was the fun, because when you enjoy what you do, you do a better job. In this Bicentennial year the Key Club planned to go "all out" on an exclusive project and were supported by the student body.

Choirs

Euclid High's choirs; Varsity Chorale, Choral Masters, and Girls' Chorus sang in school con- certs and traveled to perform at other locations showing their musical talents everywhere. Dressed in uniform, the many students blended together to become a single, united voice. This ability was not achieved over night, but took many hours of dedication and practice from each choir member.

Science Seminar

Science Seminars were held on Tuesday nights at EucHd High, with an occassional field trip to a laboratory. Many scientist and professors came, speaking in a relaxed atmos- phere to the members on a variety of science related topics. The result was an educational enrichment for those students who attended.

From Beginning To End

First the crowds gather 'round, talking and laughing. They assemble by the curbs and wait.

Then, from far away, the sounds come, first faintly, then louder, and louder, and louder.

The sounds appear, in the form of a band maching in perfect formation. The crowds cheer, the band goes by, next comes a float of every color of the rainbow, yellow, and blue, and purple.

Horses, clowns, floats and bands in one hugh line. Following one another down the block-off street. The crowds are delighted, but they see the last band go by playing "America". The music gets fainter, and fainter, and fainter, as the parade ends. Liz Powell Eucuyo Editor-in-Chief

Eucuyo

The Eucuyo was Euclid High's literary magazine. The members wrote creative prose and poetry and also accepted other writings and artwork con- tributed by fellow students. The magazine was published in the Spring, when the talents of these young writers was displayed.

Survey

This year the Survey experienced several major changes. Their origin- al advisor resigned after 15 years and three new advisors sponsored the club. Their office was moved from its previous location to the sec- ond floor. Finally, several changes were implemented in the staff rank- ing system, resulting in the ap- pointment of the first editor-in-chief in many years. After adjusting to the many revisions, the staff worked together to produce a fine news- paper keeping students aware of what was happening at Euclid High School.

The I in I.Q.S. stands for the gallons of ink used each year by Euclid's many journalists who kept the student body in- formed, entertained, and in- spired. The Q represents the quips and quotes that fed the intellect and tantalized the mind. However, most important are the (S)tudents that dedi- cated hours of time to meet, write, photograph, type, paste, print, and publish the Eucuyo, the Euclidian, and the Survey. Over the past two hundred years, America has evolved from 13 small colonies opposed to "taxation without representation" to 50 states that support the cause of freedom in every land. From the first shot at Bunker Hill to the present vote on Angola, Americans have steadfastly maintained that freedom is an "inalienable right.' These 200 years have been cautiously bold, for our nation has dared to keep the faith of such men as Sam Adams, Patrick Henry, George Washington, Roger Williams, Abraham Lincoln, and Woodrow Wilson. In our day, such men as Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight David Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Henry Kissinger have added their talents to make America the "land of the free and the home of the brave." No longer does America stand in isolation of the world but actively participates in the commerce and problems of the world. Our heritage has given us purpose and courage to fulfill that purpose.

Happy Birthday, America!

Juniors

After one year's experience at Euclid, the juniors returned for another year of work. They became the bullwarks of the athletic program and organiza- tions. Looking forward to future careers many jun- iors launched vocational programs while many col- lege bound students continued with their academic programs leading to a profession. As the year pro- gressed, the juniors met the challenges and in May accepted the reins of seniorhood. Thus, they became the class of 77.

Seniors

1976 was the Bicentennial year, a very important histori- cal moment. The school year of '75-76 was also a very special year for seniors. They became more aware of the future, its responsibilities and challenges. All of the seniors were individuals. Some left school early and went to their jobs, while others stayed after school and participated in activities. For some, their final year was the best, and for others, it was an end of something old and a beginning of something new.

A successful Student Council is built with each student's hands. When a group of people work on a project, each has to realize that he is the "key to success." With 100% participation, there will be a success. A united student body and a new spirit slogan contributed to a very spirited school year. Through pep rallies, buttons, T-shirts, cowbells, and spirit signs, the "Go Bananas" slogan spread the year around. Student Council, believing that communications are im- portant, held meetings with the Administration. Each party offered advice about areas of common interest. Homecoming and Winter Fes- tival were successful weekends. With Homecoming on Sweetest Day, and Winter Festival on Valentine's day, Cupid helped Student Council with two great memories of our 1975-76 school year. Since our experiences in life are usually determined by our expecta- tions. Student Council became a great experience.
