THE HYMNS

1. O God of Bethel

O God of Bethel, by Whose hand

Thy people still are fed; Who through this weary pilgrimage

Hast all our fathers led:

Our vows, our prayers, we now present

Before Thy throne of grace; God of our fathers, be the God

Of their succeeding race.

Through each perplexing path of life

Our wandering footsteps guide ; Give us each day our daily bread.

And raiment fit provide.

O spread Thy covering wings around.

Till all our wanderings cease. And at our Father's loved abode

Our souls arrive in peace.

Such blessings from Thy gracious hand

Our humble prayers implore; And Thou shalt be our chosen God,

And portion evermore.

2. Like A River Glorious

Like a river glorious is God's perfect peace. Over all victorious in its bright increase; Perfect, yet it floweth fuller every day,— Perfect, yet it groweth deeper all the way.

Staved upon Jehovah hearts are fully blest; Finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest.

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand, Never foe can follow, never traitor stand; Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care. Not a blast of hurry moves the spirit there.

Everv joy or trial falleth from above.

Traced upon our dial by the Sun of Love.

We mav trust Him fully all for us to do;

They vvho trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.

3. Help Me O Lord

Help me, O Lord, the God of my salvation! I have no hope, no refuge, but in Thee: Help me to make this perfect consecration, In life or death Thine evermore to be.

Help me, O Lord, to keep my pledge unbroken! Guard Thou my ways, my thoughts, my tongue, my heart; Help me to trust the word which Thou hast spoken. That from Thy paths my feet may ne'er depart.

Help me, O Lord! My strength is only weakness, Thine, thine the power by which alone I live; Help me each day to bear the cross with meekness. Till Thou at last the promised crown shalt give.

THE MESSAGE

To our Friends and Visitors :

May 1st, 1952

This evening's programme marks the close of the 58th session of the Toronto Bible College.

It also marks the climax of 50 years' service given to the College by our beloved Principal-Emeritus and Mrs. McNicol. Is there any other institution on this continent that has been so notably honoured by such a record of devoted and distin- guished service? To make this year all the more memorable it marks as well the 50th wedding anniversary of Dr. and Mrs. McNicol. For their many years of life and service and their continued presence with us we give heart-felt thanks to our heavenly Father.

The Toronto Bible College exists to provide Christian young men and women with the opportunity of becoming well grounded in the Word of God. Wherever their future sphere of service may lie we believe that a sound knowledge of the Bible will prove invaluable to them. Some years ago the late William Lyon Phelps, the distinguished Professor of English at Yale University, made this statement : "Every one who has a thorough knowledge of the Bible may truly be called edu- cated; and no other learning or culture, no matter how exten- sive or elegant, can form a proper substitute. I thoroughly believe in a university education for both men and women; but I believe a knowledge of the Bible without a college course is more valuable than a college course without the Bible". ("Autobiography and Letters"; Oxford Press "i.

Toronto Bible College is not maintained by endowments or by denominational support, but is dependent each year on the free will gifts of Christian friends who recognize the value of its work as "a handmaid of all the churches".

We earnestly invite you to share in training the young people at Toronto Bible College for Christian service in this time of the ^v•orld's sore need.

For your convenience an en\"elope and cheque form are herewith supplied. If you use either for a contribution, kindlv fill in your name and address, and we shall send you a receipt and place your name on our College mailing list to receive our publications and announcements-

On behalf of the Board of Governors,
